So, I'm still here. Lets see, what's happened? Dedicaticon happened, the annual Neg9 mini-conference/party in Chico, CA - that was late December, and it was a blast.
I started school last week, and it seems like it's going to be alright. I'm taking CSC 142 (Programming 1, on the track for the UW computer science major), ART 252 (Art History), and MAT 102 (College Algebra)
The only one that may give me grief is the math class, because it's a math class and I'm a me. We'll see how it goes though, starting out with matrices and stuff which I enjoy and understand well enough I think. I am also going to be working w/ a tutor this quarter (and probably future ones) so I don't fall behind and such.
I'm leaving to Washington, D.C. this Thursday, for the Shmoocon information security conference. It's grown a lot since last year's (first) conference, and it should be great as well, I'm rather looking forward to it, and to being in D.C. again. I'll be back late Monday night.
An interesting thing that took a few days of my time (and still does take my time) has been setting up a mail server for neg9.org and fellow domains. I'm using qmail/vpopmail/dovecot and the other assorted little qmail things. It's pretty cool, but a bit frustrating at times when you just want to look at a simple man page and figure something out. Oh well, it's working pretty damn well now, so go ahead and email crash [aTx] neg9 dot [0rg]! The server is a sun Netra X1 that I got at last year's DEFCON, and is hosted in the Westin building in Seattle.
Catch ya all later, -craSH |

| | [Afterhoursdjs.org - All Live, All the time!] | ] | I'm going to San Diego September 15th, and I'll be there until the 20th. I'm going because of Toorcon, a computer security conference that I also went to last year, I really liked San Diego after visiting, so I'm really looking forward to going back. I'm going to have like a day before the con and two days after to hang out and check out the city, and I'll be able to meet up with Mickey, who I haven't seen since mid-highschool, which will definitely be awesome. At least three or four other people from Neg9 [https://neg9.org] are going to be there too, so it'll be a blast for sure. We're probably going to stay at the same hotel we stayed at last year, the Horton Grand - a funky hotel modeled after the 1600's in a Victorian fashion, and it's haunted, and each room has it's own diary - clearly the L'hotel de choix for ever hacker visiting in San Diego.. that's why the conference got a deal with them for conference rates! (Who made /that/ decision, people?) But it was really fun last year, the bellman gave us such weird looks as we'd walk in and out of the hotel the entire night up until probably 6am or so, usually with some different type of proofed beverage with us. This year should be even more insane for the poor guy since it's probably going to be booked solid with hackers attending the conference, it's just a small hotel too with 24 suites. The conference was held at the Hyatt last year, this real it's going to be at the San Diego Convention Center, with a ton more room, and I guess they're easier and cheaper to work with than the Hyatt, which is good for everyone, really really looking forward to it.
Lets see... Defcon 13 was great, tons of fun and craziness, all well photographed at [https://gallery.neg9.org/] for your viewing pleasure, the drive to and from Vegas was good, and I drove a ton.. all-in-all from leaving Seattle, going to Chico, Santa Rosa, Vegas, and then back again in reverse order, I put 3,500 miles on the car in about three weeks, whoo. Do that ever again? Hell yeah! Next year baby. Driving in Oregon at night is fun, and nice.. its all pretty much mountains, and next to no other cars are around, it's cool out during the summer, but not too bad, so it's perfect for having the windows down and you can go pretty fast without much worry. Fun times.
Also.. work's been pretty sweet since I came back, been working on OpenBSD pretty much full time, can't go wrong with that. Once the school quarter starts, I'm going to be taking time off from my current job North Seattle Community College (where I actually go in to work, office-like), and probably work for the South campus doing security work, which I can do almost completely from home over SSH/VPN - sweeet! I've already done some work for them, setting up a web proxy to restrict web sites students from certain departments are allowed to access. Fun stuff, hopefully I'll be able to do that and just work at night when I'm up anyways.
Yes, I double posted this from my Xanga which I never use.
Later! |

Getting to be that time - we leave thursday at 0300, should arrive in Vegas early afternoon. It will be awesome, and I'm really looking forward to it.
Staying in Vegas 5 days after the conference, at the Excalibur hotel just to check out the rest of Vegas and all of that.
It'll be cool to meet people and learn some, I hope. And of course the con's are always just fun and time to relax some. |

Here's some pics taken over spring break, of note are:
- Myself, Liz, Pei-Pei, and Jon driving around and taking funny
timed photos without my, or Jon's knowing how to use my camera's timer
function.
- The March Neg9/DC707 meeting in Rohnert Park, CA
- My trip to chico with Matt, where we hung out with Luke and Twinvega/other Neg9/DC530 people.
So, check 'em out here:

Anyone else have pics from their spring break?
